Applications are now open for service on the Transport Professionals Association Board.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction, governance maturity and long-term sustainability at an exciting time in the organisation’s journey. The Board is particularly seeking candidates with education and training and/or local government experience who can bring sound judgement and practical insight to strengthen the Board’s collective capability and support TPA’s purpose, members and broader transport community.
TPA is calling for expressions of interest to fill a vacant Board Appointed Director position for an initial term of two years, with the option of a further one-year extension. Through this appointment, the Board is seeking to strengthen its collective experience and perspective, with particular interest in candidates who have experience in education and training and/or local government, or in closely aligned sectors, together with demonstrated governance capability.

Serving as a Board Appointed Director provides an opportunity to contribute to TPA’s strategic direction, support good governance, strengthen member representation and help shape the organisations ongoing role in the transport sector. Directors bring their expertise, networks and judgement to discussions that influence TPA’s priorities, performance and long-term sustainability.

Applications will be carefully assessed against the selection criteria, with shortlisted candidates invited to interview with Board representatives in mid-to late November. Applicants who are not shortlisted will be notified by email once the recruitment process has been completed.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Be, or be eligible to become, a Member of TPA at the time of appointment.
- Be eligible to be a director under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
- Be assessed by the Board Nominations Committee as meeting the requirements of TPA’s Director Eligibility and Board Composition Policy.
If you currently serve on a TPA Operational Committee, you may still apply; however, you will be required to resign from that committee on successful appointment to the Board.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential capabilities and experience
- Demonstrated leadership, executive or board-level experience, with the capacity to contribute at a strategic governance level.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary governance principles, including strategy, risk, compliance, accountability and the respective roles of the Board and management.
- Proven ability to analyse complex information, apply independent judgement and contribute constructively to collective decisions.
- Financial literacy sufficient to interpret financial statements, budgets and performance reporting and to contribute to financial oversight.
- Experience building collaborative relationships and influencing outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong communication skills, integrity and commitment to TPA’s purpose and the interests of its members and the broader community.
- Capacity and commitment to prepare for and attend scheduled Board meetings and, where appointed, relevant committee meetings, with absences limited to exceptional circumstances.
Targeted and highly desirable expertise
To complement the Board’s current skills and perspectives, demonstrated exposure in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Experience in education and training, including sector governance, workforce development, professional standards or capability building.
- Experience in local government or in working with local government stakeholders, systems or policy settings.
- Experience in governance and regulatory environments relevant to public, community, professional association, education or not-for-profit organisations.
- Experience in public policy development, interpretation or implementation, including organisational reform and stakeholder consultation.
